Evaluation
we chose to shoot our film in quite a busy place,
after changing our idea several times due to difficulties and set backs, we finally decided to film in the common room at school, i thought this worked quite well as our film opening shows a girl being bullied by the popular kids at school, and then later progressing to be a woman later on in age, getting up and ready for work. this taught me alot about the importance of shooting schedules and the timing. although we wanted the scene realistic with a few people in the background chatting and acting normally, we did want to get a good quality footage of the actors and also good sound quality as if there was too much noise in the background it would have been distracting.
Another aspect of the filming i have gained lots of experience in is how to direct the authors and to think about angles, mise en scene, i felt i was quite successful in this area when i filmed a montage for the end of the film opening, which followed a character getting ready for work.
the very first shot of this montage was the girl brushing her hair, and then applying her makeup, i felt that this connated the impression of a woman, getting ready to work, all grown up very sucessfuly as it is very clear that the character is an older girl, waking up in the morning, and getting ready for work as the character clearly says " Another day at work"!
During the editing process i became very adept at creating good continuity, learning exactly how precise i needed to be with cutting clips when switching shots, this was particularly important in the scene where it changes from Roxie and Sean talking, and the cutting to the scene of them walking out of the doors together, roxie infront and sean following shortly behind. if this wasnt dont well it wouldnt look very good as it should be shown as all one scene, but the camera changing angles.
our film plot is similiar to thirteen going on thirty with the idea of showing the girl at a young age, and then growing into a woman., i think our film opening follows the conventions of real media products closely, although i havent yet seen a film which starts off with a young girl getting bullied, which could actually challenge the general plot lines of romantic comedy, but the plot line still shows and follows the common plot line of real media products.
Our media product represents student typed teenagers, and growing adults as a particular social group, as the opening scene of our film all the characters are teenagers, and then changing into one of the characters being a growing adult, the film is based around romantic comedy, which is enjoyed by many social groups.
our media product presents students as immature, rude and nasty.
but also potrays one of the characters as a quiet, shy girl who gets bullied.
we adressed and entertained our audience by filming roxie being pushed over in slow motion at school, i think this adresses our targeted audience of young adults, as it is something to relate to from school, or something that most people would find quite funny.
we have clearly potrayed sean(jack naylor) as the school bully in the opening, and potrayed roxie(paige millington ) as the school geek.
the slow motion of the laughs in the background also sounds very funny in the film.
When I was working on the preliminary task the main focus was on continuity rather than plot line or character. overall the film opening continuity went well, although with room for improvement, we could of spent more time makeing the editing perfect, rather than rushing to get it finished. and getting the music added.
I think our Filming went quite well, with room for improvement, we had set backs of changing our ideas several times, which caused time problems, we had to rush to get everything finished, edited and burned on to a dvd.
We introduced all the main characters in the beginning of the film, to make it clear to the audience who the main characters were.
overall i think our editing skills were shown in our film opening,
we used transitions, and the title screens that already come with premier, we sucessfully added and timed all our music well with the scenes in our film.
I thought personally the fade ins and outs on our titles looked sucessful, as we spent time deciding what would look better.we also added a slow motion part to our filming which worked effectively.
I have learnt alot whilst working on the filming and editing, i have learnt how to effectively use my time, and how to construct the scenes effectively, keeping all the scenes, music and editing in good continuity.
I have enjoyed working on this task, and feel like i have benefited in knowledge from it. one thing i would change if i had the chance, would be to of used my time more effectively, and to have spent more time on perfecting the editing continuity.
set designs and costumes
After having to change our idea several times, we had to choose the option of their being no specific set design or costume design.
the setting was in the school common room, we chose a time which wasn't too busy, but still looked realistically like a school.
Our costume design was just basically casual clothing which would be worn to school.
If we would of gone with our first idea of A party scene
there would of been alot of set and costume designs.
