Evaluation

we chose to shoot our film in quite a busy place,
after changing our idea several times due to difficulties and set backs, we finally decided to film in the common room at school, i thought this worked quite well as our film opening shows a girl being bullied by the popular kids at school, and then later progressing to be a woman later on in age, getting up and ready for work. this taught me alot about the importance of shooting schedules and the timing. although we wanted the scene realistic with a few people in the background chatting and acting normally, we did want to get a good quality footage of the actors and also good sound quality as if there was too much noise in the background it would have been distracting.

Another aspect of the filming i have gained lots of experience in is how to direct the authors and to think about angles, mise en scene, i felt i was quite successful in this area when i filmed a montage for the end of the film opening, which followed a character getting ready for work.
the very first shot of this montage was the girl brushing her hair, and then applying her makeup, i felt that this connated the impression of a woman, getting ready to work, all grown up very sucessfuly as it is very clear that the character is an older girl, waking up in the morning, and getting ready for work as the character clearly says " Another day at work"!

During the editing process i became very adept at creating good continuity, learning exactly how precise i needed to be with cutting clips when switching shots, this was particularly important in the scene where it changes from Roxie and Sean talking, and the cutting to the scene of them walking out of the doors together, roxie infront and sean following shortly behind. if this wasnt dont well it wouldnt look very good as it should be shown as all one scene, but the camera changing angles.
our film plot is similiar to thirteen going on thirty with the idea of showing the girl at a young age, and then growing into a woman., i think our film opening follows the conventions of real media products closely, although i havent yet seen a film which starts off with a young girl getting bullied, which could actually challenge the general plot lines of romantic comedy, but the plot line still shows and follows the common plot line of real media products.

Our media product represents student typed teenagers, and growing adults as a particular social group, as the opening scene of our film all the characters are teenagers, and then changing into one of the characters being a growing adult, the film is based around romantic comedy, which is enjoyed by many social groups.
our media product presents students as immature, rude and nasty.
but also potrays one of the characters as a quiet, shy girl who gets bullied.

we adressed and entertained our audience by filming roxie being pushed over in slow motion at school, i think this adresses our targeted audience of young adults, as it is something to relate to from school, or something that most people would find quite funny.
we have clearly potrayed sean(jack naylor) as the school bully in the opening, and potrayed roxie(paige millington ) as the school geek.
the slow motion of the laughs in the background also sounds very funny in the film.
When I was working on the preliminary task the main focus was on continuity rather than plot line or character. overall the film opening continuity went well, although with room for improvement, we could of spent more time makeing the editing perfect, rather than rushing to get it finished. and getting the music added.
I think our Filming went quite well, with room for improvement, we had set backs of changing our ideas several times, which caused time problems, we had to rush to get everything finished, edited and burned on to a dvd.
We introduced all the main characters in the beginning of the film, to make it clear to the audience who the main characters were.
overall i think our editing skills were shown in our film opening,
we used transitions, and the title screens that already come with premier, we sucessfully added and timed all our music well with the scenes in our film.
I thought personally the fade ins and outs on our titles looked sucessful, as we spent time deciding what would look better.we also added a slow motion part to our filming which worked effectively.
I have learnt alot whilst working on the filming and editing, i have learnt how to effectively use my time, and how to construct the scenes effectively, keeping all the scenes, music and editing in good continuity.
I have enjoyed working on this task, and feel like i have benefited in knowledge from it. one thing i would change if i had the chance, would be to of used my time more effectively, and to have spent more time on perfecting the editing continuity.

set designs and costumes

After having to change our idea several times, we had to choose the option of their being no specific set design or costume design.
the setting was in the school common room, we chose a time which wasn't too busy, but still looked realistically  like a school.

Our costume design was just basically casual clothing which would be worn to school.

If we would of gone with our first idea of A party scene
there would of been alot of set and costume designs.

changes to our planning

We both decided instead of dressing the same character up, to look older in out film opening. We decided to use a different girl with the same shaped face and hair colour to show a strong change in character and to exaggerate on how much the character has changed since she was young.

change of idea

We once again decided to change our initial idea because of timing limits and lack of people to play the parts. As our first idea was a party scene we couldn’t get enough people to make the scene realistic. At this point we decided to change our beginning and set it at 6th form. We’re using a lot of the same shots and angles from the party scene.

As the girl enters the 6th form block the camera is shown from her point of view. She looks around nervously lacking confidence. A group of girls either side are shouting abuse and looking her up and down laughing hysterically. Across the room we see a group of good looking lads whispering. One of the lads walks over striding confidently and arrogantly. Approaching the girl she tenses and looks around in amazement as he begins to talk to her. Flirting slyly, everyone else in the room stares. He reaches in to kiss and she closes her eyes waiting for the moment to happen. To her disappointment he is actually playing a cruel trick and trips her over in front of everyone. The whole room bursts out laughing.

final whole film treatment

Film treatment.
The camera pans through a long shot of house party.Diegetic music is being played very loudly and we see bottles and cans all over the place. The house is full of drunken teenagers dancing and all over each other. The camera is acting as the eyes of a girl walking through the party. She is classed as a geek. Out of place and awkward she tries to move through the gang of girls and lads all who are laughing at her. The camera moves from left to right looking up and down at the groups to show how nervous and out of place she is. From a long shot we see a group of good looking lads they are all taking shots and laughing hysterically. When they see the geeky girl they stop and obviously talking about her whisper in each others ears. We don’t hear what the guys are saying. They are acting very suspicious and cocky. The best looking of the group approaches the girl and starts to chat her up. It’s obvious he’s just doing this to play the crowd but as she is besotted with him she’s doesn’t realise. The guy then reaches towards her for a kiss closing her eyes she waits for the moment she’s wished for a very long time, only to be hit with a pie in the face. We then see the whole room burst out into laughter and the embarrassment and sadness is clear in her expression.
The camera then cuts to a shot of the girl waking up for work. She is much older (5 years). The camera zooms out slowly so we can see a view of her waking up. She stretches and gets out of the bed. The camera then does random shots of her getting ready for work. For example her picking out clothes, brushing teeth, brushing her hair and applying her lipstick. We see her getting into her car and making her way to work. She is already five minutes late and finds herself in a traffic jam. Today is a very important day as they are being introduced to the new boss. Her co worker Marie rings her to see what’s holding her up and she starts to stress. After finally arriving at Crush headquarters she runs through the doors only to trip over in front of everyone. A man offers her a hand up as their eyes meet she realises it’s the one and only cocky arrogant Sean the jerk that ruined her teenage life. As she smoothes herself down her sees the whole floor fighting a smirk off their faces. It’s an all too familiar experience of her teenage years. It seems Sean doesn’t recognise her and he gains his place carrying on the meeting. Afterwards Roxanne goes to the toilet to compose herself. Looking at herself in the mirror she beings to talk to herself about the situation in hand. Marie comes in the toilets after her but Roxanne shakes it off and pretends everything is alright. They both walk out of the toilets only to find Sean standing above them. He asks for a quiet word with Roxanne and takes her to one side.
Looking her up and down and laughing to himself begins to speak. The conversation refers to their teenage years. He apologises for being immature and asks if they can have a mutual relationship for the benefits of work. She puts her heart into work doing everything she can to impress him. One night everyone from the office heads into town for a well deserved night out. First Roxie is anxious but once the champagne starts flowing she relaxes and starts to party. Half way through the night her and Marie nip to the toilets. Here Roxie confesses her deep love for the boss! Further on in the night she starts talking to a group of lads as she glances over towards the exit she sees Marie and Sean hand in hand. Hurt she leaves the club and goes home crying herself to sleep.
Feeling extremely hung-over the next morning she struggles to get herself ready for work. Rustling through her wardrobe she can’t find anything to wear. She wants something sexy to impress Sean. Getting more and more stressed she finally finds the perfect outfit at the back of her wardrobe. A high waisted skirt and see through shirt.
Confidently strolling into work she approaches Sean. As she does so one of her male colleagues looks her up and down commenting on how gorgeous she looks. Sean sees this as inappropriate and says she better be dressed right tomorrow. Secretly he’s jealous and it shows. Later on in the afternoon a meeting is held. All workers find out their going on a weekend away to a quiet hotel to celebrate ten years in the making. Roxie automatically sees this as a chance to get closer to Sean.
After work she rushes home and decides it’s the perfect time for a new wardrobe and makeover. Grabbing her purse she heads for town. Shopping first all new designer wardrobe consisting of tight fitting suits, short skirts, blouses and dresses. After the shopping she heads for the salon. Changing her blonde hair to a rich dark brown.
Next morning she wakes up earlier than usual and takes her time to get ready.
She drives up to the hotel where everyone is meeting for the weekend away. She unloads her luggage and walks into the main entrance. All her colleagues are shocked at her new look. She can’t but smile. Sean notices her straight away with a massive grin on his face he approaches her and gives her many compliments.

At night everyone is sat around a table having a 3 course meal. Sean and Roxie sit across from each other and find they actually have a lot in common. Everyone’s starting to feel a bit tipsy and heads to the main ball room for the party. Roxie and Marie are dancing together when Sean asks Roxie for a dance. Marie jealous storms off and Roxie cant believe her luck. They slow dance and afterwards head to the bar. Getting a drink together Sean whispers in Roxie’s ear ‘your coming up to my room tonight’. Embarrassed she giggles and doesn’t know whether he’s being serious. Here exclaims he’s not joking and asks her to meet him at the reception bang on midnight. And hands her his hotel room card. She takes the card and thinks about his proposal, 100 questions filled her head,
Would it complicate work? Does he like her or does he just want her for one night only?
She weighs up the odds and decides to sneak off to her own hotel room at the end of the night leaving Sean waiting.

The next day all the work colleagues meet up for a day of “team building”
Coincidently Sean and roxie are on the same team, they smile at each other and get on with the tasks set, later on in the day a competition is held, a boat race, teams were told to get into couples and race against each other, roxie and Sean naturally got together and sat in the boat,
Sean asks roxie why she didn’t turn up at midnight, and roxie makes up a story how she got really tired and had to head off to bed.
The race began and roxie and Sean where ahead and winning the race, they both rowed quickly, there hearts beating and adrenaline rushing, they got to the other side of the lake and won first place.
They looked at each other, roxie felt the same rush of excitement she did when she was the young geek who got turned down, she realised they had both grown up so much since back then, Sean leant in for a kiss and roxies lips touched his for the first time.
Later on in her hotel room, she smiled to herself remembering the moment.
She couldn’t help but fall for Sean, she just hoped that he had changed his ways and actually wanted her.
Roxie makes a rush decision, feeling so happy from earlier she needed to see Sean.
She walked to his hotel room, and takes out the card he gave her the night before,
She walks in, her mouth open she could not believe what she was seeing,
Marie and Sean in front of her stood up kissing.
She quickly ran out and slammed his door shut and ran back to her room furiously in tears.
She couldn’t believe what had happened,
After all those years of growing up Sean was just the typical 16 year old boy he had always been, and as for Marie, she could never be a true friend. Furious she packed all her clothes into her suitcase, and stormed out of the hotel, as roxie was getting into her car Sean ran outside to stop her. She started her car and accelerated off, wheel spinning, leaving Sean in a haze of dust. She looked through her mirror at him that was the last time she saw seans face again.

final narrative synopsis

After realising our first idea was not our best me and jasmine both decided to go for the genre of romantic comedy, as we both have more ideas about this genre.

Camera goes through a house of teenagers partying, lots of alcholol dancing and mess.
the camera is used as the eyes of the girl- a stereotypical geek, wearing black rimmed glasses, walking through the house party looking out of place and very nervous.

A drunken bunch of lads are laughing and pointing at the girl, who is alone we see one boy up close and he is drunk

the camera then spins around to the girls face the lad stands up and hushes everyone around to be quiet, he starts to chat her up, he is obviously joking around he leans in for a kiss, she closes her eyes waiting for the moment only to be hit with a pie in the face everyone laughs histerically.

a cut comes in and we see a shot of the girl, waking up older.
sharp cuts of her getting ready for work as non diagetic music starts and the titles come in.

the narrative synopsis

The titles will come up at the beginning of the film, in a style of scooby doo,

the opening scene starts with a close up of the tv screen, showing a horror film "the ring", then zooms out to show 2 characters, sat watching the film eating like slobs.

Then their will be a cut to outside, where the camera will be in the bushes, pointing towards a house, where you will see the characters watching tv.

Then the camera will come out of the bushes, and walk upto the window of the house where you can see the two slobs in the window.
